  • Saint Teresa Of Avila

A short biography of the Saint who reformed Carmelites and gave a host of Saints to the Church. She helped bring back the original strict observance of the Carmelite rule, founded numerous new convents, became a celebrated mystic, and was canonized only 40 years after her death. In 1970 she was declared a Doctor of the Church. Here is a popular biography for young and old of this spirited and colorful Saint . Mother Frances Alice Monica Forbes, also known as F. A. Forbes, was born in 1869 into a Presbyterian family. She converted to Catholicism in 1900, and entered the Society of the Sacred Heart as a postulant when she was thirty-one. She was a strong-willed and intelligent woman, and used both these gifts to generously make the sacrifices that the Lord wished of her daily. F. A. Forbes authored a considerable amount of books based on the saints, including St. John Bosco: Friend of Youth, St. Monica, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Benedict, and The Gripfast Series of English Readers. • The Incorruptibles (Catholic Saints)

Continuously popular since it first appeared in 1977, The Incorruptibles remains the acknowledged classic on the bodies of Saints that did not undergo decomposition after death, many remaining fresh and flexible for years, or even centuries. After explaining both natural and artificial mummification, the author shows that the incorruption of the Saints bodies fits into neither category but constitutes a much greater phenomenon which is unexplained by modern science even to this day. The author presents 102 canonized Saints, Beati and Venerables, summarizing their lives, the discovery of their incorruption and investigations by Church and medical authorities. The incorruptible bodies of saints are a consoling sign of Christ's victory over death, a confirmation of the dogma of the Resurrection of the Body, a sign that the Saints are still with us in the Mystical Body of Christ, as well as a proof of the truth of the Catholic Faith for only in the Catholic Church do we find this phenomenon.

• The Complete Cloud of Unknowing

By Anynonymous, Translation and Commentary by Father John-Julian, OJNCentral to the Christian mystical tradition is the inspired work of the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing. Rich with insights and perceptions of the obscurity and "unknowability" of God, this work reveals God as being on an entirely different plane of existence from human beings—so different that time-bound human language is inadequate to describe God exhaustively or accurately. Intellect and emotion both fail in seeking God, who can only be encountered by rejecting all common earthly means in a "cloud of forgetting" and the discovery of Godself in the dark "cloud of unknowing" that can be pierced only with a "lance of longing love." Now, we finally have a translation that captures all of this beauty and complexity, without minimizing the nuances, all of which are explained with extensive introductions and accompanying notes. "If I could keep with me only two books and a journal, this book would be one of the books. As far as I'm concerned it's the most important book (and among the most influential) on Christian prayer in the last two millennia. I'm delighted to endorse this fine new translation and commentary."—The Rev. Dr. Chris Neufeld-Erdman, University Presbyterian Church, Fresno, CA , author of Beyond Chaos: Living theChristian Family in a World Like Ours and Returning to the Center: Living Prayer in a DistractingWorld "The Complete Cloud of Unknowing includes two classics of medieval Christian contemplative spirituality — essential reading for anyone seeking to deepen their relationship with God through the practice of silent prayer. They are rich texts, full of nuanced wisdom that often gets lost in modern translations. Father John-Julian has captured the beauty, humor and literaryelegance of the original versions, but also has supplemented his translation with detailed notes that convey the subtle spiritual insight that makes these works required reading. I'm excited about this book — it's a title I will recommend both to beginners and to longstanding students of The Cloud." —Carl McColman, author of Answering the Contemplative Call and The Lion, the Mouse and the Dawn Treader "In his translation of The Cloud of Unknowing, Fr. John-Julian presents us with an edition that is scholarly yet readable, learned yet spiritual. His lived experience as a monk combines with deep insight as a theologian to provide an approach to The Cloud that is contemplative in mind and soul. The book offers a rich introduction and enlightening, provocative notes that will satisfy both novice and veteran readers of the text. Fr. John-Julian's accessible version does not oversimplify the profundity of the text. This edition, with its wonderful resources, will keep the seeker journeying evermore back to the work, on both intellectual and practical roads." —Professor Frederick S. Roden, Department of English, University of Connecticut "With his mastery of the subtleties of language and local idiom, Fr. John Julian reclaims a classic of spiritual literature to its rightful place in the 21st century. By rediscovering the nuances that the Unknown Author of The Cloud of Unknowing embedded into the spiritual fabric of hiswork, the reader is drawn into the contemplative life with the fullness of its 14th century origins while being fully relevant in the 21st century. I would highly recommend this spiritual classic restored and recast for a modernworld."—Dr. Jeffrey P. Wincel, Author of Climbing the Mountain of God: The Path to Mystical Discipleship. • The Practice of the Presence of God

By Br. LawrenceThe original guide to "practicing the presence of God""We must not grow weary of doing little things for the love of God, who looks not on the great size of the work, but on the love of it." In this classic work, which has instructed and inspired millions, a humble 17th-century monk reveals the secrets of daily, moment-by-moment fellowship with God. "In the way of God, thoughts count very little," writes Brother Lawrence, who spent much of his monastic life in the kitchen. "Love does it all." Full of realistic honesty, friendliness, and simplicity, Brother Lawrence shows that it is possible to meet God amongst the pots and pans—in the ordinary, daily events of life. • Words of Light

By Padre PioThe world was startled in 2007 by revelations that Mother Teresa of Calcutta's spiritual life was full of serious doubts and personal suffering for nearly 50 years. The other great saint of the last half century - Padre Pio - offers similar revelations of his own in this enlightening collection of short excerpts from hisletters. Many books have been written on the life and works of Padre Pio, but Words of Light is not a book about what others think or say about him. Here, hespeaks for himself. If you are interested in the complexities and challenges of contemporary faith, you will benefit from these short teachings, counsels, and recollections culled from some of Padre Pio's most personal writings. In these letters I quickly discovered the same states of soul that were described by the great mystics. Padre Pio's own 'dark night' was in no way inferior to that described by John of the Cross, and equally the 'living flame' of his love for God dazzles the reader and allows them to catch a glimpse of another world. — Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, from the Introduction. SKU: 46554

  • I Loved Jesus in the Night

By Fr. Paul MurrayNew paperback edition released in honor of Mother Teresa's canonization on September 4, 2016. I Loved Jesus in the Night is one priest's compelling account of meeting with the saint of Calcutta. Sharing anecdotes and first-hand experiences, Paul Murray offers a glimpse into why Mother Teresa could declare, in one of her letters, that if ever she were to "become a saint," she would surely be one of "darkness." This very personal yet powerful book is an attempt to come to terms with the dark night experiences endured by MotherTeresa in the light of the Gospel and the mysticalteachings of St John of the Cross. And something else as well... Revelations of Mother Teresa's sense of humor! "I Loved Jesus in the Night by Dominican Father Paul Murray recounts in 24 short chapters his experiences and lessons learned from time spent with Mother Teresa. Since his first encounter with her in a university classroom, Fr. Murray was struck to the core by her "radiant joy" and the simplicity and candor that permeated his heart and mind. This book is easy to read and givesinsights into the spiritual life and relationship with Jesus that drove this carrier of God's love to serve the poorest of the poor." —Catholic Missourian "Mother Teresa suffered this spiritual darkness most of her life but kept her faith amid the suffering. Murray had several contacts with Mother Teresa anddiscusses these and other aspects of the spirituality of the dark night of the soul. This small book should be pondered rather than quickly read. It is highly recommended to those interested in Mother Teresa and the dark night of the soul." —Benet Exton, The OklahomanRead a book review by James Martin on Busted Halo. SKU: 46522

  • The Rosary - The Prayer That Saved My Life - Immaculee Ilibagiza

Immaculée Ilibagiza believes that praying the rosary spared her from being slaughtered during the horrific 1994 Rwanda genocide, in which her family and more than a million other innocent men, women, and children were brutally murdered. Nearly two decades later, Immaculée continues to pray the rosary every day and marvels at how she is constantly renewed and richly rewarded by rejoicing in this glorious prayer. It has helped her in every aspect of her life, from literally saving her life to strengthening her faith, easing sorrows, changing heartache into happiness, healing illnesses in herself and others, solving family problems, landing a dream job, finding long-lost friends, and even locating lost keys! She received so many blessings from the rosary, in fact, that she decided to study its history and origins. She soon discovered that it was not just meant for Catholics, but that the Virgin Mary promised a life filled with blessings to everyone from any religion who faithfully recited the rosary daily . . . and this was such wonderful news that she vowed to share it with as many people as she could. In The Rosary: The Prayer That Saved My Life, Immaculée reveals how the rosary’s many blessings can be reaped by each and every one of us. In this moving and uplifting book, the New York Times bestselling author recounts her personal experience of discovering the power and the beauty of the ancient beads—and shows all of us how to enrich our own lives by exploring and embracing the mysteries, secrets, and promises of the prayer that became her “lifeline to heaven.” Soft Cover, 241 pages

  • The Light of Faith by Pope Francis

Faith is the source of light, of guidance for the Christian life. "We walk by faith, not by sight", wrote St Paul. In his first encyclical Pope Francis reflects on the meaning of faith, the beginning of God's gracious salvation. Faith is the means by which man encounters the living God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. Francis draws on key themes of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, who wrote encyclicals on charity and hope. He intended to complete the set with a reflection on faith, which would also have underscored the Year of Faith that he launched. Benedict's history-making retirement meant he was unable to finish his encyclical. Francis took up the task, adding his own insights, themes, and emphases to the work begun by Benedict XVI. According to Pope Francis, Light of Faith is a "four hand document". Pope Benedict, Francis notes, "handed it to me, it is a strong document. He did the great amount of work". Thus, although officially Light of Faith (Lumen Fidei) is an encyclical of Pope Francis and reflects his teaching ministry, it is also reflects the work of Pope Emeritus Benedict. This is not only Francis' first encyclical; it is also the first encyclical to have been openly written by two successors of St. Peter.111 pages.

  • Dark Night of the Soul

By St. John of the Cross. In Dark Night of the Soul, Saint John of the Cross presents for us a portrait painted from his own experience of one who advances successfully through the struggles of the spiritual life. The dark night that St John describes is not abandonment by God but special consideration from Him for those who desire to purify and perfect their souls. With a soul purified from earthly attachments, we can advance through the much quoted but oft misunderstood dark night of the souls into unity with God. By accepting the desolation and difficulty of this process, the soul cooperates with God and opens itself to receiving and revealing more perfectly God's glory. Be not afraid- Dark Night of the Soul, though austere and exacting in its instructions for holy living, is laced with St John's charity and kindness, his love of all things beautiful and sacred- including you.

  • The Pope's Cat

Released for the 5th anniversary of the election of Pope Francis! This is the story of a stray born on the Via della Conciliazione in Rome, how she’s adopted by the Pope, and then “rules” the Vatican from museum to floorboard! First in a new series. No one has a closer view of what’s happening in the world’s tiniest nation, Vatican City, than Margaret, the Pope’s new cat. But she wasn’t always Margaret, and she wasn’t always the Pope’s cat. She started out as a stray on the streets of Rome, and there are those in the Vatican who wish she’d never been allowed inside. This fun, adorable new character will appeal to all kids! Here is a cat who does what she likes regardless of what others, even someone like the Pope, expects of her! “The Pope’s Cat is a heartwarming tale, which gives the papacy a human touch, along with a taste of life in Rome. Sweeney has done an excellent job in opening up the world of the Vatican to youngsters. I read it to my two children and they both loved it!” —Christopher Lamb, Rome correspondent for The Tablet (UK) “Young readers will surely fall in love with Margaret, the spirit-filled pet at the heart of The Pope's Cat! Accompanied by fanciful illustrations from Roy Deleon, Jon Sweeney’s first book for children invites us to peek inside the Vatican and discover a Pope who loves adorable cats just like the rest of us.” —Lisa M. Hendey, founder of CatholicMom. Com, author of the Chime Travelers series “Margaret brings joy and quiet companionship into the Pope’s life in this sweet tale of friendship that left me hungry—not only for gelato and spaghetti alle vongole—but for more stories about this dear pair.” —Jennifer Grant, award-winning author of Maybe God Is Like That Too “As a self-professed gelateria Catholic, fascinated by Rome, the papacy, and cats, I cannot wait to read this story to our children and the cats we have at home.” —Massimo Faggioli, Professor of Historical Theology, Villanova University

  • God's Easter Miracles

In God's Easter Miracles, the sea kids learn that Easter isn't about the Easter bunny or candy. It's about Jesus Christ giving up His life for all of us, and how we are to sacrifice ourselves for others. Paul, who is autistic, struggles with relationships, Jimmy doesn't want to share, and Lenny clings to life due to a terrible boat accident. On Easter Sunday, the children witness the power of their prayers. Their Sunday School teacher, Miss Linda, tells the children, "Truly, God has blessed us with many Easter miracles. Lenny was healed, and Jimmy asked Jesus into his heart." Even Paul has a miraculous change of heart. A true lesson of becoming more like Jesus is learned in this beautiful Easter story of love and grace.

  • Will I See My Dog In Heaven

By Fr. Jack Wintz, OFMA Universal Question, thoughtfully answered! What do you think: Will we see our cats and dogs in heaven? Does God's plan for eternity include the created nonhuman world? Franciscan friar and popular writer Father Jack Wintz brings a love for all creation and infectious enthusiasm to the serious task of exploring answers to these long-asked questions,In Will I See My Dog in Heaven? Father Jack admits that no one really knows what God has in mind for us in the next life. But in ten thoughtful chapters, he lines up evidence from the Scriptures, Christian tradition and liturgy, and the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, that God desires all creatures (yes, including our beloved pets!) in the afterlife. • All God's Angels

By Martin Shannon, CJThere is an entire realm of divine activity that human eyes cannotperceive—at least not without God's unveiling grace. The angels belong to this invisible world. Fr. Martin Shannon, CJ, pulls back the veil between heaven and earth with biblical stories, meditations, and sacred art on the role of heavenly messengers and their work in our lives. Angels are servants of love, doing God's bidding with a theology of burning love. God seeks out his servants, and once he has our attention, he draws us closer, long enough for the sparks of his glory to reach us and ignite a flame in our own souls. This is the work of angels. This book is a series of reflections on the angelic visitations that are recorded in the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments. Each entry includes a Scripture reading, an artistic image, a reflection and questions for consideration or discussion. "What a beautiful, beautiful book this is. We modern readers are materialists, mostly, and we tend to minimize the role of angels or metally edit them out of the biblical scenes. Martin Shannon restores these powerful messengers and helpers to their place in all the Scriptures and in all our lives."—Mike Aquilina, author of Angels of God: The Bible, the Church and the Heavenly Hosts"This book explores a subject that's usually too much for words—from the realm of the unseen, the invisible, as we affirm in the creed. But Shannon achieves a sparkling kind of clarity and inspiration. I suggest you not begin to read this book unless you arewilling to believe."—Jon M. Sweeney, author of The Complete Francis of Assisi and The Pope Who Quit. SKU: 46527

  • Jesus of Nazareth - Softcover by Benedict XVI

In this bold, momentous work, the pope—in his first book written as Benedict XVI—seeks to salvage the person of Jesus from recent “popular” depictions and to restore Jesus’ true identity as discovered in the Gospels. Through his brilliance as a theologian and his personal conviction as a believer, the pope shares a rich, compelling, flesh-and-blood portrait of Jesus and incites us to encounter, face-to-face, the central figure of the Christian faith. From Jesus of Nazareth… “the great question that will be with us throughout this entire book: But what has Jesus really brought, then, if he has not brought world peace, universal prosperity, and a better world? What has he brought? The answer is very simple: God. He has brought God! He has brought the God who once gradually unveiled his countenance first to Abraham, then to Moses and the prophets, and then in the wisdom literature—the God who showed his face only in Israel, even though he was also honored among the pagans in various shadowy guises. It is this God, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, the true God, whom he has brought to the peoples of the earth. He has brought God, and now we know his face, now we can call upon him. Now we know the path that we human beings have to take in this world. Jesus has brought God and with God the truth about where we are going and where we come from: faith, hope, and love.”

  • Francis of Assisi in His Own Words

By Translated and Annotated by Jon M. Sweeney Reading Francis' writings is like being "on the road" with him 800 years ago Biographies will only take you so far. It's impossible to truly understand Francis of Assisi without reading his writings. Sweeney has compiled all of the ones that we are most certain come from Francis himself, including his first Rule of life, the Rule he wrote for the Third Order, letters to friends, letters to people in power, messages to all Franciscans, songs, praises, canticles, and his final spiritual Testament. An introduction and explanatory notes throughout the book help to put the writings into historical and theological context. "The man is ever-fruitful, and the world never tires of hearing from him _ Francis of Assisi, that is! Now you have the luxury of a very good translation of his original writings, in words that we can now appreciate." -Friar Richard Rohr, OFM Center for Action and Contemplation Albuquerque, New Mexico "We can be grateful that Jon M. Sweeney has rendered the saint's essential writings so artfully, in a language both passionate and simple—and thus faithful to the style of Francis and the substance of his life. This little book offers a vivid compendium of the Gospel, calling us to set aside greed and relinquish extravagance in seeking the heart of Christ. It is a faithful guide for all who desire that God might 'enlighten the shadows of[their] heart' and come to know that God is 'all the riches we require.'" -Mark S. Burrows, Ph. D. Professor at the University of Applied Sciences, Bochum (Germany); scholar of medieval mysticism, poet, and translator of Rainer Maria Rilke's Prayers of a Young Poet . SKU: 46508
