St. Philomena is a 4th-century martyr and one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic Church. Her story is one of courage, faith, and miracles.
St. Philomena was a young Greek princess who lived in the 4th century.
She was the daughter of a king in Corinth, Greece, and was raised in a Christian family. At the age of 13, Philomena dedicated her life to God and took a vow of virginity.
When the Roman Emperor Diocletian launched a persecution against Christians, Philomena’s father sent her to Rome to escape the danger. However, Philomena’s beauty and faith caught the attention of Diocletian, who wanted to marry her. Philomena refused, and as a result, she was tortured and eventually beheaded.

In the 19th century, a young nun, Sr. Marie Louise of Jesus, claimed to have received visions from St. Philomena. Through these visions, Sr. Marie Louise was able to uncover Philomena’s relics in the catacombs of Rome. Since then, St. Philomena’s shrine in Mugnano, Italy, has become a popular pilgrimage site, attracting millions of devotees.

Traditional Prayer
“O faithful Virgin and glorious Martyr, St. Philomena, who works so many miracles on behalf of the faithful, have pity on me. I relive your martyrdom at the hands of the tyrant Diocletian, and I beg you to obtain for me that heroic fortitude which led you to sacrifice your life for the love of Jesus Christ. Obtain for me also the graces which I need, and particularly the favor which I ask of you (mention your intention).”
