The Vintage Yellow Bronze Four Roses Crucifix ends in flowers at every point. A full-blown rose is set inside a quatrefoil terminal at the head, at each arm and at the foot, and behind the corpus a broad sunburst spreads out from the crossing. The figure is modelled with the head fallen to the right and the loincloth caught at the hip.
The tablet above the head is lettered INRI, the Latin abbreviation of the charge Pilate had fixed to the cross: Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Written as mockery, it has been read by the Church ever since as plain truth, and it is why those four letters still appear on crucifixes today. The roses answer it, the Passion in flower, and the warm yellow tone gathers the sunburst into something gentler than the same design in a cooler metal.
The four roses crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
