The Vintage Bronze St. Christopher Medal shows the giant mid-river, staff in hand, with the Christ Child seated on his shoulder holding an orb, the two of them set inside an arched and beaded panel.
The story behind the image is one of the best loved in the calendar. Christopher carried travelers across a ford, and one night the child on his shoulders grew so heavy that he seemed to bear the weight of the world, which, as the child told him, he did. He has been the patron of travelers ever since, and the front is lettered SAINT CHRISTOPHER BE MY GUIDE. The reverse carries the old traveler's message in seven lines, I AM A CATHOLIC, IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT PLEASE NOTIFY A PRIEST, the reason a medal like this was worn on the road rather than kept in a drawer.
