The Crowned Marian Monogram Rosary Center is worked almost entirely in openwork, built around an A and an M interlaced with a small cross rising from the middle stroke, set beneath a jeweled crown and flanked by scrolled panels strewn with small flowers.
The interlaced AM is the oldest of the Marian monograms, read as Ave Maria or as Auspice Maria, under Mary's protection, and the crown above it is the crown of the Queen of Heaven. Because the letters are woven together, the piece carries its devotion without needing a word of legend, which is part of why the design outlasted so many others and turns up on rosaries from one century to the next. White bronze gives it a cool, silvery tone that shows the piercing to advantage.
