The Vintage Bronze Victorian Fleur-de-Lis Crucifix is built on the lily. Every terminal, at both arms, at the head and at the foot, opens into a pierced fleur-de-lis with the metal cut away between the lobes, so the outline is lacy and the weight stays low. A small fan of incised rays spreads on either side of the upright above the arms, and the corpus at the crossing is slender and quietly modeled.
The lily is Our Lady's flower, and a crucifix carrying it at all four ends keeps the Mother at the foot of the Cross without depicting her there, which is a very nineteenth-century way of saying a thing: indirect, and entirely clear. There is no lettering on the piece. At an inch and three quarters it hangs well and reads well, delicate without being fragile.
The Victorian Fleur-de-Lis Crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
