The Star of David pendant is built from two interlaced triangles, the bands passing over and under one another around an open hexagon at the center. The front is worked all over with fine granulation, a close field of raised dots running the length of every band, and the back is left smooth.
The Magen David, the shield of David, is among the oldest and best known emblems of Jewish faith and identity, and the interlaced form shown here is the traditional one, drawn as a single unbroken weave. Granulation is an ancient goldsmith's technique, tiny beads of metal fused to the surface one at a time, and it gives the star a texture that catches light rather than reflecting it flatly. There is no lettering anywhere on the piece; its whole effect comes from the interlace and from that worked surface against the antiqued finish.
The Star of David pendant was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the pendant's vintage character.
