Product Details

The Vintage Bronze St. Philomena Medal with Palm shows a young woman standing in profile, veiled, in a long gown with a mantle drawn across her body and her hands lowered quietly before her. A palm frond fills the field at her right, slender arrow shafts stand beside her, and the whole background is worked in fine vertical hatching that throws the figure forward in low relief.

The palm is the mark of a martyr and the arrows belong to St. Philomena, the young Roman girl whose tomb was opened in the catacomb of Priscilla in 1802 and whose devotion spread quickly across the nineteenth century, championed by St. John Vianney, who credited her with the cures worked at Ars. She is invoked for the young, for priests and for causes that look hopeless. No lettering was cast on the piece, so the figure carries it alone; the work is quiet and plain and easy to wear.

The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
