Bring bread to a hungry man and a cloak to a cold woman. Take a frightened child’s hand and find the way home. Fit the wheel back on a farmer’s cart. Gather little flowers, light the roadside cross, and rebuild the fallen chapel of San Damiano stone by stone.

And on the road to Gubbio, when the wolf blocks your path — be still. Do not run. Hold the prayer, and make peace.

Francis was born in Assisi around 1181, in the green hills of Umbria. He left wealth behind for poverty and service, owning little and giving freely — and he is remembered for peace, fraternity, and the love of every creature.

The greeting he taught his brothers was simple, and the game keeps it: God give you peace.
