Product Details

The Vintage Bronze St. Lucy Medal shows the Sicilian martyr veiled and haloed, the martyr's palm laid against one shoulder and in her other hand the little footed dish in which she is traditionally shown carrying her eyes. The design is cut shallow and close, in the way of small devotional medals meant to be worn every day.

Around the rim runs SANCTA LUCIA O·P·N·, the abbreviation standing for ora pro nobis — Saint Lucy, pray for us. She died at Syracuse in the persecution of Diocletian in the early fourth century, and her name means light. That has shaped her devotion ever since: she is invoked by those with trouble of the eyes, and by anyone asking for light in a dark season. Her feast falls in the deepest part of December, when the asking is easiest to understand.

The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
