Product Details

On the front of the Vintage Bronze St. Francis Solano Medal a haloed friar in habit and cloak raises a cross in his right hand while a kneeling figure in a feathered headdress reaches toward him — the missionary preaching, and the moment of blessing. The reverse is given over to lettering: SAN FRANCISCO SOLANO, and beneath it 1549 - 10 - III - 1949.

Francis Solano was born in Spain on 10 March 1549 and spent twenty years among the peoples of Tucumán and Peru, learning their languages, playing his violin for them and being loved for it. The dates mark the fourth centenary of his birth, when the original medal was struck in Argentina in 1949. He remains the patron of the missions of South America and of anyone who carries the faith far from home.

The St. Francis Solano medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
