The Seven Sorrows medal shows the Virgin veiled and haloed with seven swords gathered into her breast, encircled by the words VIRGO SEPTEM DOLORUM and a border of small stars and hearts. The reverse holds the Holy Face on a cloth hung between two draped standards.
The Latin names her Virgin of the Seven Sorrows, the seven griefs of Mary's life told from Simeon's prophecy in the temple to the burial of her Son. Around the reverse the French reads REGARDEZ LA FACE DE VOTRE CHRIST, look upon the face of your Christ, taken from the psalm that asks God to look on the face of his anointed. The two faces set the sorrow of the mother beside the suffering face of the Son, which is how these devotions were kept together.
The Seven Sorrows medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
