The Saint Hubert Hunting Horn medal is shaped as a hunting horn curled around a round field, which tells you whose it is before you look closer. Inside, a huntsman kneels with his staff between a rearing horse and a stag whose antlers carry a small cross, his hound beside him.
That is the vision that stopped Hubert in the forest of the Ardennes on a Good Friday morning while the rest of Christendom was at prayer. He gave up the chase, went to the Church, and became bishop of Liege and in time the patron of hunters, foresters and everyone who works with dogs and horses. The reverse is lettered CLEF DE ST HUBERT, the Key of Saint Hubert, around a large key whose bow opens into a pointed oval containing a cross. The key was the famous relic of his Ardennes shrine, long invoked against the bite of mad animals, and copies of it went home in the pockets of pilgrims all across France and Belgium.
The Saint Hubert medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
