The Vintage Bronze Sacred Heart Cross takes its character from its outline: four arms flaring outward and closing in crescent split terminals, notched and beaded, so the silhouette reads almost like a star. A round medallion is set at the centre of each face. One holds a half-length figure of Christ showing his Sacred Heart, with rays filling the disc behind him.
The other medallion carries the IHS monogram surmounted by a small cross and set over three nails, ringed by the words APOSTOLAT DU COEUR DE JESUS, Apostleship of the Heart of Jesus. The French societies of the Sacred Heart took that name for members who offered the work and prayer of each day in union with the Heart of Christ. A piece like this was worn as a badge of belonging as much as an image of devotion.
The cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
