The three-bar Orthodox cross carries its whole theology in its shape: the short board above for the charge nailed over Christ's head, the long arm where his hands were fixed, and the slanted footrest below, tilted so that one end points up and one down for the two thieves. On this two-inch casting the corpus hangs in deep relief with the head inclined and the body drawn to one side, and a winged figure crowns the top of the cross.
Slavonic abbreviations are cast around the figure. ІС ХС is the ancient contraction for Jesus Christ, and НИ КА, Greek in origin, means conquers: Jesus Christ Conquers, the formula that has stood on crosses of this kind for a thousand years. At a full two inches the piece has the weight and presence that go with the size.
The three-bar crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
