The Vintage Bronze Precious Blood Heart Rosary Center gives its whole face over to words. Eight lines of raised lettering fill the heart, with the Holy Name cut larger than everything around it, and the opposite face is left almost bare: a single thorn branch crosses it, and one drop of blood falls beneath.
The lettering reads PLACE ON THY HEART ONE DROP OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS AND FEAR NOTHING, with PIUS IX at the point of the heart. The saying belongs to the nineteenth-century devotion to the Precious Blood, which Pius IX gave to the whole Church, and his name cast into the metal places the original after 1846. It is unusual for a rosary center to carry a prayer rather than an image; here the prayer is the image, and it can be read at arm's length.
