Four roses frame the Vintage Bronze Praying Madonna Medal with Roses, two tied with a ribbon across the crest and one at either side, modelled full enough to stand proud of the rim. Within, the Virgin is shown at half length, veiled and haloed, her hands joined before her and a nimbus arching behind her head. The relief is soft and the expression quiet.
The other face turns to a place rather than a person: the spired sanctuary church at Lourdes rising above the lower buildings on its slope, worked in shallow relief so that it reads almost as an engraving. French pilgrims carried medals of exactly this kind home from the grotto where Mary appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous in 1858, and where the sick still go to pray. The roses belong to the same thought, the flower long given to Mary in litany and hymn.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
