The crowned Virgin holds the Child at the center of this oval shrine medal, rays spreading behind her and small figures gathered at her feet. It is a pilgrim's medal, the kind carried home from a shrine and worn afterward as a reminder of the visit and of the prayer made there.
The face is lettered OUR LADY OF VICTORY SHRINE with LACKAWANNA below, naming the basilica in western New York raised by Father Nelson Baker, who fed and housed thousands of children and put the whole work under Our Lady's protection. The title is older still, given to Mary in thanksgiving for deliverance, and it has always been invoked by people facing something they cannot win on their own. The reverse carries a cross above the letter M within a ring of stars, the device of the Miraculous Medal, with the shrine legend repeated around it.
The Our Lady of Victory shrine medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
