The La Salette medal gives both halves of a single story. On the front a woman in the tall coif of the La Salette image stands on a hillside with her arms folded, two shepherd children before her, and the legend arches around the scalloped border: N.D. RECONCILIATRICE DE LA SALETTE P.P.N., Our Lady Reconciler of La Salette, pray for us.
The reverse shows the same figure seated, elbows on her knees and her face buried in her hands, ringed by O VIERGE PLEURANT A LA SALETTE P.P.N., O Virgin weeping at La Salette, pray for us. In 1846 two children in the French Alps found her weeping there, and it is the tears the devotion has kept; the maker of the antique original gave them a whole face of the medal.
The La Salette medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
