Product Details

The Lourdes medal frames Our Lady in an open quatrefoil so that she stands free in the center rather than pressed into a field. She is veiled, her hands joined at her breast, and roses climb toward her from the small disc at the base of the frame. An ornamented monogram is worked into that same disc, and the open frame lets the light through behind her.

The disc is dated 11 FEV. 1858, the eleventh of February 1858, the day Bernadette Soubirous first saw the Lady at the grotto of Massabielle. The roses belong to the same account, where a rose lay on each bare foot. Between the date and the flowers, the medal keeps a small record of the morning a devotion began, when a girl gathering firewood was told to come back and to pray. Lourdes has drawn the sick and the hopeful ever since, and the piece carries that whole history in a very quiet way.

The Lourdes medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
