The Vintage Bronze Guardian Angel and Child Medal shows a standing angel in a long pleated robe, wings spread wide to fill the field, with a much smaller child gathered in close at its side and held there. The ground behind them is heavily stippled, so the two figures come forward bright out of a dark, granular sky, and a small scrolled crest tops the medal.
The reverse is left almost bare: a single lily stem in low relief laid diagonally across a plain field, flower and leaves. The lily is the flower of purity and the flower carried by the angel of the Annunciation, and putting it alone on the back leaves the front to say everything else. Guardian angel medals were classically given to children at a baptism or a first communion, on the strength of the promise that their angels always behold the face of the Father, and this is a particularly warm example of the type.
The guardian angel medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
