The Vintage Bronze Cross and Lilies Rosary Center is openwork: a plain Latin cross standing against a finely striated ground of rays, flanked by two trumpet-shaped lilies on long curling stems. Below the cross the stems cross over one another and interlace into an open knot, so that ornament and structure are doing the same job at once.
The lily is Mary's flower and the flower of purity throughout Christian art, and setting two of them to either side of the cross is an old way of putting the Mother beside the Passion without depicting her at all. Anyone praying the rosary would have read it instantly, and nothing needed to be lettered. The flowing, whiplash line of the stems places the antique original in the Art Nouveau period, when devotional metalwork was at its most inventive.
This rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
