The Vintage Yellow Bronze St. Joan of Arc Rosary Center with Lilies shows the Maid of Orléans in profile, her hair cut short at the jaw and armour at her shoulder, set within a round medallion. Around her the frame gathers her whole story: two crossed sword hilts, sprays of lily, and a ribbon carrying a date. This is Joan as French devotional art has always loved her, soldier and maiden at once, the sword and the lily given equal weight.
The ribbon reads 1909, the year Joan of Arc was declared blessed in Rome, and the antique original was made to mark it. She heard her voices as a girl, led the relief of Orléans at seventeen and was burned at nineteen; five centuries later the Church raised her to the altars. She is a patron for soldiers, for France, and for anyone asked to act on a conviction that others cannot yet see.
