The Vintage White Bronze Patterned Crucifix with Trefoils takes its character from the surface of the cross itself. Fine combed lines radiate outward along every arm, so the metal seems to stream away from the crossing, and each arm widens into a notched fan set with a small trefoil flower. Against that radiant ground the corpus is slim and still, the head fallen to the right.
Rays worked into the body of the cross, rather than added around it, are an old way of saying that the glory belongs to the Crucified himself and not to anything set behind him. The trefoil at each terminal carries the Trinity in the simplest form the metalworker had, three lobes joined on one stem. European rosary makers returned to this pattern for two centuries because it gives a plain corpus room to be seen, and in white bronze the striations hold a cool, silvery light.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
