The Vintage White Bronze Crucifix with Two Kneeling Angels is a small tableau rather than a bare cross. The cross stands at the center of a pierced oval of foliate scrollwork, and beneath its arms two angels kneel facing the shaft, one at each side, their wings folded back into the openwork. The scrolls close over the top of the cross and open again below into a broad rounded foot.
Above the corpus the titulus is lettered INRI, for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews — the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross. The kneeling angels are the older half of the image: the whole court of heaven attending a death that the world walked past. At this size the effect is unexpectedly tender.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
