This rosary center is given to Saint Therese of Lisieux. She is shown half-length in a round medallion, veiled, her head bowed, holding a crucifix against her breast with a spray of roses laid across it — the two attributes by which she is always known. Around the medallion, a lobed frame is massed with small open flowers.
The lettering curving over her head reads SANCTA TERESIA A JESU INFANTE — Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus, her name in religion. The roses recall her promise to spend her heaven doing good on earth and to let fall a shower of roses; the crucifix stands for her little way, the path of small things done with great love that she set out in her writings and that later made her a Doctor of the Church. She died at twenty-four, and her confidence has carried more people than most long lives do. At an inch across, the center holds its own without crowding the beads.
