The Vintage Bronze Rayed Square Rosary Center takes its effect from geometry rather than ornament. A square frame with a raised bevel encloses a ground cut with fine rays that run out from the middle to all four edges, and at the centre a plain circular roundel holds a single head in profile, bearded and long-haired, turned to the right.
Rays are the oldest shorthand in Christian art for glory breaking out of a still center, and here they do the work a border and a legend would do elsewhere, drawing the eye inward to the face rather than around the rim. The design is unusually clean for a rosary center, and the square frame and radiating ground make a good foil for round beads, the one straight-edged thing in a circle of them. Nothing is lettered anywhere on it.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
