This large rosary center is given entirely to the Sacred Heart. The heart stands in high relief with its upper lobes polished bright, the crown of thorns wrapped right across its width, flames rising from the top with a small cross standing among them, and rows of blood drops falling from beneath the thorns down the lower half.
Nothing about it is understated, and that is proper to the devotion, which was never a subtle one. As it was given to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial, it asks for one thing: that you look at a heart wounded, crowned and still burning, and read it as love that did not stop at being refused. The thorns are the wound, the flames are the love, the cross is what the love cost. At an inch and a quarter the center anchors a full rosary strongly, and the deep modeling holds the antiqued finish in every fold.
