The Vintage Bronze Large Filigree Center is the broadest of the filigree centers, wider than it is tall, with scrolls, beaded loops and small flowers pierced right through the metal from edge to edge. At the middle a raised oval boss holds the veiled head of the Virgin in profile, her eyes lowered, modelled softly enough that the face reads as much by shadow as by line.
The Madonna in profile, treated almost as a cameo, was a favourite of nineteenth-century devotional jewellers, and the filigree worked around her here has real fluency to it. A center this size was made for a substantial rosary strung with large beads, and it sits like a small brooch at the place where the decades meet. Nothing on the piece is lettered. Each casting is antiqued and polished by hand, so the openwork takes the finish a little differently every time.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
