The Holy Face of Jesus is carried in high relief on the front of this rosary center, the eyes closed, the hair and beard falling in heavy strands, with the legend running the full circuit of the rim. The other face sets the IHS monogram at the center of a broad sunburst, lettered above, at the sides and below.
The Latin around the face reads ILLUMINA DOMINE VULTUM TUUM SUPER NOS, Lord, let the light of your face shine upon us, and MANE NOBISCUM DOMINE, stay with us, Lord, the words the disciples said at Emmaus as the day drew toward evening. Beneath the sunburst stands A.M.D.G., to the greater glory of God. Devotion to the Holy Face is an act of reparation, offering the face marked by the Passion in place of the insults given to God, and the words on this piece ask only that the same face be turned toward us in light.
