The Vintage Bronze Holy Face of Jesus Rosary Center gives almost its whole front to a single image. Christ is shown crowned with thorns, the eyes closed and the head fallen to one side, modelled in deep relief against a finely cross-hatched ground that pushes the face forward into the light. It is a small thing made to be looked at slowly.
The reverse is quieter: a crowned Madonna holding the Christ Child within a rayed halo, with the word ITALY lettered beneath her, the country mark carried over from the Italian antique original. Devotion to the Holy Face grew through the nineteenth century alongside the Veil of Veronica and the Shroud of Turin, offered in reparation for blasphemy and as a way of keeping the suffering face of Christ before the eyes during an ordinary day. Set at the turn of a rosary, that is exactly what it does.
This rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
