The Vintage Bronze Gothic Crucifix closes each of its four arms in a quatrefoil terminal, pierced at the centre with small beads set at the points. The corpus is modelled in the round against the slender shaft, the head fallen to one shoulder, with a plain square plaque above it. Everything else is left to the architecture of the cross itself.
The form follows the quatrefoil-ended crosses of medieval metalwork, where the four-petalled flower carried the four Evangelists and the four corners of the earth the Gospel was sent to. A crucifix like this rewards slow looking rather than quick reading: four flowers opening outward, and the figure at the centre perfectly still. The antiqued finish settles into the recesses of the terminals while the raised edges and the corpus stay bright.
The Gothic crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
