The Vintage Bronze Fleur-de-Lis Patterned Crucifix is worked all over in lilies. The heads run in low relief along the shaft and out to the arms, the four terminals open into pierced fleur-de-lis of their own, and the corpus at the crossing is small and finely modelled with the pattern pressing close around it.
The lily has stood for purity and for the Virgin since the Middle Ages, and as the fleur-de-lis it became the ordinary ornament of a devotional cross, a way of setting his Mother's flower over the whole length of the wood. What this crucifix offers is the older kind of appeal: an object dense with pattern, made to be held and turned over rather than only looked at. The antiquing settles into the pattern a little differently on every casting.
The fleur-de-lis crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
