The Vintage Bronze Elongated Madonna Rosary Center is unusually tall and tapering, and its front is given almost entirely to one image: the face of the Virgin beneath a long veil, modelled at nearly the full width of the metal and framed by a raised arch that follows the outline of the piece. The effect is quiet, closer to a carved head than to the small crowded scenes usual on rosary centers.
The veil is what carries the meaning. Mary is almost never shown without it, and Christian art has used it from the beginning as the sign of a life given over, covered and set apart for what was asked of her. Shown this large and this plainly, the face becomes something to sit with rather than to read. The reverse is a plain plate, relieved only by a small square panel near the top holding a haloed figure who raises a hand in blessing and holds an open book.
This Madonna rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
