The Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Stars keeps its interest at the edges. Each of the four arms finishes in a split, forked termination that opens like a shoot, and the whole surface between them is filled with foliate scrollwork and small raised stars scattered through it. A leaf-like finial spreads at the foot. Against all that movement the corpus hangs still, head inclined, the modelling of the body soft and unemphatic.
Above the head is the small scroll lettered INRI, the abbreviation of Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. It is the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross, the only words the Gospels record as written there, and it has been kept on crucifixes ever since as a title that was meant as mockery and turned out to be simply true.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
