Each of the four arms of this crucifix ends in a cluster of leaves and flowers modeled in deep relief, with a further crown of foliage gathered above the crossing and a full spray filling the flared foot. The corpus hangs in high relief along the shaft, the head fallen to the right, set against a plain fluted panel that keeps the figure clear of the ornament around it.
The antique original from which this piece was cast carries the date 1909, which belongs to that original rather than to the casting offered here. Crosses that break into leaf and flower read the wood of the crucifixion as a living tree, so that Good Friday and Easter are held together in one image, and the tradition was still going strong when this pattern was made. Its size gives it real substance, and it finishes a full-length rosary handsomely.
