The Vintage Bronze Small Sacred Heart Medal is exactly what its name says and nothing more: a heart in high relief with flames breaking from the top in five uneven tongues, the upper face dimpled and irregular where the wound and the crown of thorns fall.
The flaming heart standing alone is the form the Sacred Heart takes in the milagro tradition of Mexico and the American Southwest, where small cast hearts are carried, pinned at a shrine or left at an altar as a petition or in thanks for one answered. Stripped of the figure of Christ, the image gets straight to what the devotion is about: a love that is wounded and still burning. The surface is left rough from the original casting, and much of the character of the piece is in that roughness.
The small Sacred Heart medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
