The Small Holy Mary and Sacred Heart medal carries a devotion on each face. One side shows the Sacred Heart of Jesus half-length on a stippled ground, his hand raised in blessing and the flaming heart at his breast. The other shows a small standing Virgin in a wide bell-shaped mantle beneath a radiant halo, flanked by tall upright forms that read as candles, with a row of small beads below her feet.

The Sacred Heart devotion took its familiar form after Christ showed his heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial in the 1670s and asked simply to be loved in return. The Virgin opposite him is a vested shrine statue, dressed by the faithful in a robe that widens to the floor and set between her candles the way she stands on her feast. Together they carry the two devotions that most Catholic households kept side by side.

The bracelet is a handmade rolo chain in bronze-finished brass with a lobster clasp, 8 inches long, with 6 mm oval links. Fasten the clasp to any link along the chain to shorten it, so one size genuinely fits. The charm hangs from a split ring.
