The Vintage White Bronze Saint Anne of Auray Garden Medal shows a crowned woman in long robes standing on a low pedestal with a smaller child figure at her right hand, the ground beneath them strewn with tiny raised fleurons and the whole framed in open flowers and a curving whiplash stem. It is Saint Anne teaching the young Virgin, and the flowers crowding the frame are what give the medal its garden.
The reverse is lettered in cursive script, de Sainte Anne d'Auray, of Saint Anne of Auray. Sainte-Anne-d'Auray in Brittany has been the great French shrine of Saint Anne since the seventeenth century, and pilgrims have carried medals home from it ever since. Anne is the mother of Our Lady and the grandmother of Christ, patron of mothers and grandmothers and of Brittany itself.
The Saint Anne of Auray medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
