The Vintage Sterling Silver Miraculous Medal in a Scalloped Frame sets the best-known Marian image in Catholic devotion into an unusually ornate surround, with scrolled, scalloped edges swelling out at the sides and gathering into a shell at the foot. Our Lady stands at the center with her arms lowered and open, the attitude in which she was described at the Rue du Bac in Paris in 1830.
The reverse carries the traditional device: the letter M crossed by a bar and surmounted by a cross, the hearts of Jesus and Mary beneath it, and twelve stars set around the field. The prayer said before this image for nearly two centuries is short enough to learn in a moment — O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee — and the medal took its name from the graces reported by those who wore it in the years after 1832.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
