The St. Therese of the Child Jesus cross holds a shield-shaped panel at its heart. Therese stands there in her Carmelite habit, haloed, holding a crucifix and an armful of roses, with her name lettered in an arc around her and the abbreviation P.F.U. for pray for us. An open rose fills each side arm, a veiled face is set into the terminal above, and a small shield closes the foot.
The reverse gives the rest of her. Roses repeat at all four ends, a coat of arms with palm branches sits above the panel, and five lines of raised text carry the promise she made as she was dying: I WILL SPEND MY HEAVEN DOING GOOD UPON EARTH. She died at twenty-four in 1897, unknown outside her convent, having taught what she called the little way, holiness in very small things done with great love. The roses are the shower of favours she promised to send afterwards, and by every account she kept her word.
The St. Therese cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the piece's vintage character.
