The Vintage Bronze St. Christopher Crucifix Cross carries a different devotion on each face. The front is a crucifix, the corpus set against a raised disc with spiral scrolls worked into the ends of the arms and the upright. The reverse is broad and plain but for a sunken round medallion, in which a bearded man leans on his staff mid-stream with a child riding on his shoulder.
That is Saint Christopher, whose name means Christ-bearer. The legend has him carrying an unknown child across a flooded river and finding the weight of the whole world on his back, the Child he had served without knowing it. He has been the patron of travelers for centuries, invoked by anyone on the road, at sea or in the air, and setting him opposite the crucifix makes this a natural piece for someone often away from home.
The cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
