The Vintage Bronze St. Anne Medal with Lace Border and Stars is framed by a border pierced right through into a lace of cusped ovals, quatrefoils and small applied flowers, so light passes through the frame and the centre reads as a lit window. Within it a tall veiled woman stands beneath a radiant halo, a small child raised to her shoulder, on a field strewn all over with tiny stars.
Saint Anne is the mother of Our Lady and the grandmother of Christ, shown in art as she is here, with the child in her care. She is honoured as patron of mothers and grandmothers, of women in labour and of families praying for a child, and her shrines at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and Sainte-Anne-d'Auray have drawn pilgrims for centuries. The frame is Gothic Revival work of the later nineteenth century, which gives the small figure the setting of a cathedral window.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
