Product Details

St. Agnes stands in a flowering niche on this small bronze plaque, both arms raised and open in the ancient posture of prayer, her lamb waiting at her feet. The reverse is given to a spray of lilies bound with a palm, the flowers of purity and the branch of martyrdom.

Agnes was barely more than a child when she was martyred in Rome in the early fourth century, and she has been honored there ever since as the patroness of young girls. The lamb beside her is a play on her name as much as a sign of her innocence: every year on her feast, lambs are blessed at her basilica on the Via Nomentana and their wool is woven into the pallia worn by new archbishops. Along the lower edge of the front the plaque is lettered SANCTA AGNES ROMA, Latin for Saint Agnes, Rome, naming the city that keeps her tomb.

The St. Agnes plaque medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
