The Vintage Bronze Small Resting Cherub Charm holds a winged putto reclining across the field, his chin propped on one hand and his wings folded behind him. The ground behind is left plain and slightly dished, so the little figure carries the whole piece. The pose is the familiar one from the foot of Raphael's Sistine Madonna, which passed into devotional jewellery and stayed there for a century.
There is no lettering, and none is wanted. Cherubs in Christian art stand for the attending presence of heaven, the small watchers at the edge of a holy scene who are entirely absorbed in it. At half an inch the relief reads as a soft impression rather than sharp modelling, which suits a charm made to be worn in numbers, several gathered together rather than one worn alone.
The resting cherub charm was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
