The Vintage Bronze Sleeping Child Milagro shows a child lying asleep on its side, the head turned, one arm drawn up and the legs slightly bent. The whole figure is only half an inch across and modelled with a soft roughness that keeps the feeling of the hand that made the first one.
A milagro is a small cast token brought to a shrine with a prayer and pinned to a statue or an altar cloth, either as a petition or in thanks for one already granted. Each one stands for the thing asked about, which is why the tradition produced so many small arms, legs, hearts and animals, and why a sleeping child is among the tenderest of them all.
