The Vintage Bronze Praying Woman Milagro kneels with her hands joined and raised at her breast, her head covered, her long skirt falling from the waist in deep vertical pleats and spreading where it meets the ground. She is cast fully in the round, so the pleats and the turn of her shoulders read from every side.
Milagros are the small votive figures fastened to shrine cloths and to the robes of statues across Mexico, Spain and Latin America. Most of them name a part of the body or a particular need; a kneeling figure names the person praying. She is offered for oneself or on behalf of someone else, left at a shrine, kept on a home altar, or carried as a reminder of a petition still being made. Her posture is the whole prayer, held still in metal.
The Praying Woman Milagro was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the piece's vintage character.
