The Vintage Bronze Praying Girl Milagro is a small kneeling figure in profile, her hands raised and joined before her face, her long hair falling in combed strands down her back. The modelling is deliberately simple, the features barely indicated and the body rounded and smooth, which is how these little figures have always been made, quickly and by hand.
A milagro is a votive offering. In Mexico they are taken to a shrine and pinned near the image of a saint, one for each petition or each thanksgiving: a leg for a healed leg, a heart for a troubled one, and a figure like this one for a child prayed over. Carried now rather than pinned, it keeps the same meaning exactly, a prayer made small enough to take with you and specific enough to remember who it was for.
The praying girl milagro was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
