The arms of the Vintage Bronze Points and Scrolls Crucifix taper to sharp points, and at each shoulder a pair of scrolled volutes curls back on itself, so the outline alternates between spike and spiral. Raised fleur-de-lis ornaments close the head and the foot of the shaft, and the corpus is modelled in high relief between them, head inclined and knees turned to one side.
It is a lively design and a deliberate one: the points recall the thorns and the nails, while the scrollwork and the lilies soften them into ornament, holding the Passion and its fruit in a single image the way the Church has always done. Crosses like this left nineteenth-century European workshops in great numbers, made for rosaries that were prayed every day and expected to outlast the person praying them.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
