The Vintage Bronze Pierced Heart Milagro is a solid heart modeled in full relief, its surface covered with branching veins that rise from the point toward the crown so that the metal seems to move. A long dagger enters at the upper left and the blade emerges again at the lower right, run clean through.
Milagros are the small votive figures left at Mexican shrines in petition or in thanks, each one naming the trouble it is offered for. The pierced heart is the most eloquent of them. It stands for the sorrow of the Blessed Virgin, whose soul a sword was foretold to pierce, and equally for any grief the person offering it cannot say aloud. There is no lettering on the piece. It is direct and unsentimental folk sculpture, and it has real weight in the hand for its size.
The pierced heart milagro was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
